How to use a fire extinguisher

To use a fire extinguisher we have to follow a simple rule of PASS
Pull the Pin at the top of the extinguisher. The pin releases a locking mechanism and will allow you to discharge the extinguisher.
Aim at the base of the fire, not the flames. This is important – in order to put out the fire, you must extinguish the fuel.
Squeeze the lever slowly. This will release the extinguishing agent in the extinguisher. If the handle is released, the discharge will stop.
Sweep from side to side. Using a sweeping motion, move the fire extinguisher back and forth until the fire is completely out. Operate the extinguisher from a safe distance, several feet away, and then move towards the fire once it starts to diminish.
Remember: Aim at the base of the fire, not at the flames!!!!

Electrical precautions Safety tip

If an appliance has a three-prong plug, use it only in a three-slot outlet. Never force it to fit into a two-slot outlet or extension cord. Do not use electrical equipment outside if it’s raining. Do not use any electrical items in the bathroom unless specifically designed for use there, e.g. Shavers. Even with these items however, take care not to get wet and avoid plugging and unplugging with wet hands. Most important thing switch off electrical items that are not in regular use at the plug and ensure that when we are away from the house for any length of time that you unplug and switch off electrical items as items left plugged in can be a fire risk and waste energy if left on standby.

Safety audit why should we get it done?

Health and safety audit can ensure compliance with all current legislation related to health and safety at work. It is normally a critical, in-depth examination of an organisation’s health and safety management system. The audit can cover the whole system or particular aspects, such as risk assessment procedures, issue and control of personal protective equipment etc.

The audit is carried out normally on an annual basis and provides an organisation with a clear picture of their performance in terms of health and safety management. As a result, remedial actions can be taken before incidents occur. Safety inspections are a less formal method of investigating the health and safety performance of an organisation. But this audit will highlight all positive and negative aspects of health and safety at the work place.

Yearly Safety audit should be must. You may visit http://elion.co.in/safety-audit.html for more details on safety audit

Fire Fighting Tips

All fires can be very dangerous and life-threatening. Your safety should always be your primary concern when attempting to fight a fire. Be certain that you have the proper fire extinguisher for what is burning. The fire won’t block your exit if you can’t control it. You should know how your fire extinguisher works. Inspect extinguishers once a month for dents, leaks or other signs of damage. Assure the pressure is at the recommended level. Never fight a fire if the fire is spreading rapidly. You don’t know what is burning. You don’t have the proper fire extinguisher. There is too much smoke or you are at risk of inhaling smoke.

Whether you rent or own your property, or live in a house, flat or bungalow, you can save money today by changing the way you use your lights and by fitting new energy-saving lights. Many homes today use a mixture of standard light fittings and halogen downlighters or spotlights (mainly in kitchens and bathrooms).

If you replace a traditional light bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb of the same brightness you will typically save around £3 per year, or £55 over the life of the bulb.
